Witness George Balanchine's legacy and Justin Peck's innovation in our breathtaking season opener.
Join Atlanta Ballet for the perfect pairing.
Balanchine & Peck opens this September at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
Our new season is here! Experience the brilliance of Balanchine & Peck as we launch the season with an extraordinary blend of tradition and innovation. Delve into neoclassical masterpieces by the father of American ballet, George Balanchine, complemented by a fascinating Balanchine-inspired piece by acclaimed choreographer Justin Peck.
Emeralds, In Creases, and Prodigal Son offer audiences a rare opportunity to experience a conversation across generations of ballet, illuminating how tradition and innovation coexist. Seeing all three works in one program underscores the dynamic continuum of ballet, where legacy is not static but alive, continuously reimagined by each new generation of artists.
Emeralds, described by Balanchine as “an evocation of France,” embodies delicate fluidity and lyrical romanticism through elegant dances, gemstone-inspired costumes, and intricate choreography.
In Creases
Music by Philip Glass Choreographyby Justin Peck
Set to a live accompaniment of Four Movements for Two Pianos by Philip Glass, In Creases showcases shifting shapes and formations as dancers manipulate their bodies into complex architectural structures and patterns.
Prodigal Son, Balanchine’s final work for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in 1929, explores the themes of sin and redemption through dramatic choreography, emotive storytelling, and an expressive score.
